At Data Science Africa (DSA), we are committed to leveraging data-driven innovations to address real-world challenges. In partnership with the Maseno Centre for Applied Artificial Intelligence (MCA2I) at Maseno University, we are proud to support the Leveraging Artificial Intelligence for Kenyan Sign Language (KSL) Production project.
This groundbreaking initiative is developing an AI-powered avatar system capable of translating spoken English into Kenyan Sign Language (KSL). Using a dataset of 20,000 signed KSL videos from diverse institutions, the project aims to enhance bilingual education and promote accessibility for deaf learners.
DSA’s support extends to research assistants, system evaluation, and dissemination efforts, ensuring that this technology is effectively developed and deployed. By fostering inclusivity in schools, workplaces, and public institutions, this collaboration represents a significant step toward breaking communication barriers and empowering the deaf community through AI.
