The Enterprise Medical Imaging in Zambia project, through funding provided by DSA's 2022 AAIR 2022 awards, have been developing a semi-automated medical image interpretation service using artificial intelligence (AI). As part of this project, they secured third place in the prestigious 2024 ZICTA Innovation Programme.
The winning team, part of the Enterprise Medical Imaging in Zambia (EMIZ) project, was awarded ZMW 50,000 and professional support to help commercialize their invention. Malaizyo Muzumala, an MSc in Computer Science student at the University of Zambia, received the award at a ceremony on December 4, 2024, presided over by Zambia's Minister of Technology and Science, Hon. Felix C. Mutati.
