As part of DSA's ongoing efforts to build capacity in data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence across the African continent, we are pleased to announce a $8,000 contribution to the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Research Community at the Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA) in Tanzania.
This strategic grant will provide crucial stipends for two Master's students over the course of one year, allowing them to fully dedicate themselves to the innovative research activities detailed in IAA's proposal. This direct investment in student researchers is a core part of DSA's mission to cultivate the next generation of AI leaders who will develop local solutions to local challenges.
Financial barriers often prevent talented students from pursuing extensive research. By alleviating this pressure, DSA and IAA are ensuring that promising scholars can contribute to Africa's growing data science ecosystem without having to seek opportunities abroad. This grant enables:
- The students will support IAA's research agenda, applying data science and AI to pressing issues within a Tanzanian and East African context.
- The investment strengthens IAA's institutional research capabilities, creating a center of excellence that will benefit future students.
This initiative with the Institute of Accountancy Arusha, facilitated by Dr. Theofil Assey of the Faculty of Informatics, highlights the importance of collaboration between pan-African organizations and local academic institutions. It is a model for how strategic, targeted support can make a significant impact.
